The Ever-Reliable SL1200
Check it....
Forever Copied, Never Beaten – The Technics SL1200 Turntable
No matter how much the music scene has changed over the last 40 years, there has been one constant force holding it all together – the Technics SL1200 turntable. No matter what style of music you play, you can almost guarantee you’ve had an encounter with this technological marvel.
Originally launched in 1972, it was marketed as a high-end home turntable, but was quickly taken under the wing of club DJ’s who wanted genuine flexibility and style. It laid the foundations of what we know as mixing today with some innovative technology that set it apart from all other record players. Coming as standard with a pitch adjuster, it meant that you could create seamless crossovers between tracks with no change in speed between the two records, what we know now as “beat matching”. A magnetic drive system also meant that you never had to worry about stretching a belt or having inaccurate playback caused by an incorrectly tensioned belt. It was also incredibly reliable, ten or more years of life from a regularly used set was by no means uncommon.

Remarkably, the design has remained unchanged, at least in the accepted sense of the word. Since 1979 with the Mk2, there have only been slight technical tweaks but the face has remained pretty much consistent throughout. Just think, how many other products can truly claim that?
Throughout its near 40 year reign, the 1200 has never really changed in appearance, although special editions have attracted different colour finishes such as gloss black and gold, but the layout has remained the same. Recently, there had been rumours that the 1200 would be discontinued. These have been almost denied by Panasonic who have stated that “there are no current plans to discontinue the Technics brand”. Now although this statement doesn’t specifically mention the 1200, I think it’s reasonably safe to presume that it will remain one of the company’s greatest assets.
With the world slowly turning digital it remains to be seen how much longer the SL will remain as widely used as it once was, but there are still some who hold close the passion for music that this legend has ingited over the decades. Forever copied, but never beaten, the Technics SL1200 has attained its legendary status through reliability, superior quality and a stubborn attitude towards changing its appearance.

Summer Breeze...
As summer officially kicks into high gear, so does wedding season. With more than 10 gigs already passed this year and just over 20 more to go, I'm looking forward to a great season.
Some of the highlights for the up coming gigs will be;
The Harrington Farm in Princeton, MA. Never been there before, but based off the pictures, it looks spectacular.
Andover Country Club, always one of my favorites, close to home, and very elegant (not to mention, its on a golf course!).
Ballards Inn on Block Island. I can't wait to check this place out. I've decided that this particular gig will be a nice little weekend get-a-way for the two of us as well. The venue looks incredible, and the pictures of the island itself are fantastic.
Of course these are just a few locations I'll be visiting this year, and I'll be sure to post some pictures and definitely video footage of all the great venues I'll be playing.

Celtics go up 3-2

Kobe Bryant might be the best in the game, but it takes more than one man to stop "The Big Green". The Lakers struggled for most of the game, shooting just 39.7% from the field, and a horrendous 65.4% from the line. Not quite NBA Champion caliber basketball. Kevin Garnett and Rajon Rondo added 18 points each, while Paul Pierce lit up the scoreboard with a huge 27 point game. Looks like Ron Artest can't handle The Truth after all....
Now it's off to the west coast to cap off the series, and bring banner number 18 back to Boston.
My prediction.........Celtics in 6.

It's been a while...Promised Video

Bostons Best DJ's....
For all you iPad DJ's out there...
Now the iPad caught my attention, along with everyone else's, when it was just a rumor. Now that it's been released, and people are using them, we can only assume that there will be many different apps that are going to blow peoples minds and "change the game" when it comes to computing.
Enter the iPad DJ.
I was browsing the Serato Forums, checking in on my DJ software for updates, new features etc. and I found this....
It's called iPad Mixr. No I didn't spell it wrong, even though I have the little red lines under "Mixr".
I've had the chance to use the iPad and I have to say that the touch screen is incredible, and spot on with finger movements and gestures. I'm hoping the software is as accurate as the iPad itself, so I'm patiently waiting for some YouTube videos on this app.
The website for the iPad Mixr has great info about the product. I mean, it's your basic two "turntable" mixer setup, with a few effects processors, but nothing over the top. I'm not in a position to give an in depth review on it, but definitely check the site to see all the features. I have to give props to the development team on this app for jumping all over the opportunity to get this in peoples faces.
Replacement for DJ gear, not quite. Game changer, well I'd say it has me thinking about quite a few ways to incorporate a touch screen into my setup.
And I thought my NS7 was cool...........(it still is pretty cool)
