Boogie Vision Episode 06

Here is another great Episode of "Boogie Vision"

"Episode 6" takes place at the Endicott Estate in Dedham, MA.

This was a bit non-traditional as the Bride and Groom decided to skip dinner altogether and got right into a 4 hour party set immediately following cocktail hour. Needless to say, the reception was rockin' all night long....Shout out to DJ Drew for the great camera work. ECF Entertainment at its finest!!

Also, this Episode debuts the brand new produced "Boogie Vision" intro. Big thanks to Hamelbeats for producing the music behind the intro.

The Ever-Reliable SL1200

I came across this post and had to pay homage to this great vinyl-playing tank. This post by Simon Hutt sums up the impact of the Technics SL1200.

Check it....

Forever Copied, Never Beaten – The Technics SL1200 Turntable

This is a guest blog post by Simon Hutt aka SmuttySy, a WhoSampled community member and moderator from Bristol, UK.
No matter how much the music scene has changed over the last 40 years, there has been one constant force holding it all together – the Technics SL1200 turntable. No matter what style of music you play, you can almost guarantee you’ve had an encounter with this technological marvel.
Originally launched in 1972, it was marketed as a high-end home turntable, but was quickly taken under the wing of club DJ’s who wanted genuine flexibility and style. It laid the foundations of what we know as mixing today with some innovative technology that set it apart from all other record players. Coming as standard with a pitch adjuster, it meant that you could create seamless crossovers between tracks with no change in speed between the two records, what we know now as “beat matching”. A magnetic drive system also meant that you never had to worry about stretching a belt or having inaccurate playback caused by an incorrectly tensioned belt. It was also incredibly reliable, ten or more years of life from a regularly used set was by no means uncommon.

Remarkably, the design has remained unchanged, at least in the accepted sense of the word. Since 1979 with the Mk2, there have only been slight technical tweaks but the face has remained pretty much consistent throughout. Just think, how many other products can truly claim that?
Throughout its near 40 year reign, the 1200 has never really changed in appearance, although special editions have attracted different colour finishes such as gloss black and gold, but the layout has remained the same. Recently, there had been rumours that the 1200 would be discontinued. These have been almost denied by Panasonic who have stated that “there are no current plans to discontinue the Technics brand”. Now although this statement doesn’t specifically mention the 1200, I think it’s reasonably safe to presume that it will remain one of the company’s greatest assets.
With the world slowly turning digital it remains to be seen how much longer the SL will remain as widely used as it once was, but there are still some who hold close the passion for music that this legend has ingited over the decades. Forever copied, but never beaten, the Technics SL1200 has attained its legendary status through reliability, superior quality and a stubborn attitude towards changing its appearance.

Summer Breeze...

As summer officially kicks into high gear, so does wedding season. With more than 10 gigs already passed this year and just over 20 more to go, I'm looking forward to a great season.

Some of the highlights for the up coming gigs will be;
The Harrington Farm in Princeton, MA. Never been there before, but based off the pictures, it looks spectacular.
Andover Country Club, always one of my favorites, close to home, and very elegant (not to mention, its on a golf course!).
Ballards Inn on Block Island. I can't wait to check this place out. I've decided that this particular gig will be a nice little weekend get-a-way for the two of us as well. The venue looks incredible, and the pictures of the island itself are fantastic.

Of course these are just a few locations I'll be visiting this year, and I'll be sure to post some pictures and definitely video footage of all the great venues I'll be playing.

Celtics go up 3-2

You saw it! Tonight the Boston Celtics have taken the lead in the 2010 NBA Finals, 3 games to 2.

1588164.jpg

Kobe Bryant might be the best in the game, but it takes more than one man to stop "The Big Green". The Lakers struggled for most of the game, shooting just 39.7% from the field, and a horrendous 65.4% from the line. Not quite NBA Champion caliber basketball. Kevin Garnett and Rajon Rondo added 18 points each, while Paul Pierce lit up the scoreboard with a huge 27 point game. Looks like Ron Artest can't handle The Truth after all....

Now it's off to the west coast to cap off the series, and bring banner number 18 back to Boston.

My prediction.........Celtics in 6.

Washington DC

It's our second day in DC, and we're having a great time. I have to give a special Thank You to Darrell Owens, who took time out of his busy day yesterday to give us a great mini-tour.

Lauryn and I had a 1st class escort to the Capitol Building, which included an awesome tour of the building itself, and a stop by Library of Congress. He also turned us onto a great little burger joint right down the street from the Capitol. All this during his lunch!!!! (or maybe because it was Friday?) HAHA

Thanks again Darrell, can 't wait for the big day in August!

Here's a sneak peek of what we've seen so far;

Stay tuned, YouTube video is on the way!

It's been a while...Promised Video

Here's the video I promised for the ONYX Informer Party at Northeastern University's "After Hours"
Enjoy..

Bostons Best DJ's....

J Boogz and DJ Shyne rockin the party all night long!!

For all you iPad DJ's out there...

As you all know, I'm a pretty big technology nut. I like to follow the trends and look at all the new gadgets coming out, or have come out. One in particular is the Apple iPad.

Now the iPad caught my attention, along with everyone else's, when it was just a rumor. Now that it's been released, and people are using them, we can only assume that there will be many different apps that are going to blow peoples minds and "change the game" when it comes to computing.

Enter the iPad DJ.

I was browsing the Serato Forums, checking in on my DJ software for updates, new features etc. and I found this....

It's called iPad Mixr. No I didn't spell it wrong, even though I have the little red lines under "Mixr".

I've had the chance to use the iPad and I have to say that the touch screen is incredible, and spot on with finger movements and gestures. I'm hoping the software is as accurate as the iPad itself, so I'm patiently waiting for some YouTube videos on this app.

The website for the iPad Mixr has great info about the product. I mean, it's your basic two "turntable" mixer setup, with a few effects processors, but nothing over the top. I'm not in a position to give an in depth review on it, but definitely check the site to see all the features. I have to give props to the development team on this app for jumping all over the opportunity to get this in peoples faces.

Replacement for DJ gear, not quite. Game changer, well I'd say it has me thinking about quite a few ways to incorporate a touch screen into my setup.

And I thought my NS7 was cool...........(it still is pretty cool)

You know our favorite saying, ~"ain't no party like and ECF party" , and this night proved every bit of it!!

Shyne and I rocked twin NS7 decks all night long while Jonnie "Boom Boom" made sure to bring the house down with the brand new "Booming" sound system!!
Swifto and Artem joined us and took some great photos and video.

4/10/2010:

Bridgewater State Kappa Delta Phi Awards Ball:

I'll let the video do the talking....

Up and Coming...

Hey there, it's been a few days since my last post so I wanted to fill you all in with what's coming up!!

DJ Shyne and I are getting ready to set it off at the ONYX Throwback Hip Hop Party located in After Hours at Northeastern University. Last Years party was off the meter, and this years throw-down should blow the roof off!!

We're planning a surprise setup for that night.....hmmmmm......pics to come!!

Also on the agenda is Bridgewater state's Kappa Delta Phi Ball. This party has always been absolutely ridiculous!! Probably one of, if not the best jam I've ever done on a yearly basis.
We've got a nice light show for this one, and as usual, Swifto will be coming along to bless the mic with his mind blowing MC work!

Ah the smell of spring, another super-busy season is just a few days away and I'm ready to rock!!!

I'll have plenty of pics and vids as the season moves along...

We'll see you next week!!

When it Rains.....You know...

Good evening ladies and gentlemen, and now for your evening weather report with acting meteorologist and always DJ, J Boogz.

"Thanks voice guy, Well folks, looks like rain, feels like rain....you guessed it, must be rain!"

And a lot of it if you haven't noticed.

I've spent the majority of my day literally shoveling water into the sump-pump location in 2 basements today. To be completely honest, I consider myself very lucky compared to some folks in the Peabody area tonight.

Anyway, the studio isn't underwater, hopefully it will stay that way, so work continues.

Swifto just walked though the door and we're going to put some finishing touches on a few tracks tonight for his album, "Career Move" which features the ridiculous production work of HamelBeats.

Stay Tuned....

My first iChat Meeting.

Call me a little behind, but I just had my first meeting with a bride and groom via iChat. (Thank you Amanda & Todd)

What a picture perfect couple. I'm very excited to be on board for this reception. They are very in tune to what they want at their reception and are also looking to make sure everyone else has a great time too!

When it comes to this seasons receptions, I'm loving all the brides and grooms who are really hands on with planning together. I've had many gigs in the past where the grooms aren't too involved and it makes it no fun for the bride. Not to mention, it doesn't score ANY points with the future mom-in-law. Having that "guy" element adds so much to a reception and really brings out the creativeness of the couple as a team.

Congrats Amanda & Todd! I'm looking forward to "meeting" you again. Maybe next time we can enjoy a StarBucks, rather than having to make my own cup with my Keurig.

1st Post

Ladies & Gentlemen, welcome to my new blog.

I know, I know, right now it looks a little plain, there's not too much going on here, but rest assured, you'll see quite a bit of content before you know it.

I'd like to use this as an outlet about me, my gigs, and other things I'm up to as well.

(kind of like what everyone else does........but my way)

In my blog we'll go on a journey through videos, pictures, mixtapes, studio projects, wedding receptions......the list goes on and on. The ride will be a blast.

I hope you all enjoy my articles as I post!
Please feel free to comment.
